Alex Koglin, PhD
CO-FOUNDER, CEO
Bioscientist | Entrepreneur | Advisor | Economic Activist
Alex Koglin is a scientist-entrepreneur who bridges cutting-edge research and real-world impact. As a prestigious J. Robert Oppenheimer Fellow at Los Alamos National Laboratory (2010-2013), Alex laid the foundation for his future work transforming scientific discoveries into healthcare solutions.
As co-founder and former President and Chief Scientific Officer of Nature's Toolbox (NTx) in Rio Rancho, New Mexico, Alex built an organization devoted to global health improvement—particularly developing better, deployable and scalable biomanufacturing technology with wider accessibility.
Alex knows firsthand what it takes to build successful biotech ventures in New Mexico. He designed and established specialized laboratory spaces, first at Santa Fe Community College and later at NTx's expanded Rio Rancho location.
Today, Alex serves on the Board of Directors at the New Mexico Bioscience Authority, working to strengthen the state's biotech startup ecosystem. He recognizes New Mexico's extraordinary potential in this sector—with its wealth of generated intellectual property from national laboratories and universities—while addressing critical gaps in laboratory infrastructure and funding pathways.
Alex believes in strong partnerships for the New Mexico Venture Studio (NMVS) across Los Alamos and Sandia National Laboratories, academic institutions, and the growing community of bioscience, sustainability and technology entrepreneurs statewide. His vision has already attracted commitments for participation and facility space.
The NMVS initiative extends beyond state borders, drawing interest from innovation hubs like Boston, San Diego and European partners. This approach creates opportunities for co-location in New Mexico, expanding intellectual property resources, talent pools, and funding possibilities while raising the profile of New Mexico startups internationally.
Such strategic partnerships, as those with BioArk in Valais-CH and Cleantech Alps, position NMVS startups to connect with major biotech companies and—enhancing visibility, customer reach, and investment opportunities.
